Traffic Calming and Parking Study
Measures to increase road safety for all and improve parking availability.
The Town of Kittery is studying potential traffic calming and parking measures to make getting around Kittery safer and more convenient. Traffic calming is a combination of speed control and volume management approaches that aim to make roadways safer for drivers and non-drivers alike.
This work will result in a recommendation to the Town Council to adopt a specific menu of potential traffic calming strategies that may be implemented at specific locations in response to requests from residents and property owners.
For parking, the team analyzed on-street supply (i.e., count and type of spaces) and utilization (share of spaces parked) across different times of day and days of the week in three areas – the Foreside, Badgers Island (west of US-1), and Seapoint Road. Leveraging field insights and feedback from the Traffic and Parking Committee, this work will identify potential ways to enforce time-restricted parking but will not involve paid on-street parking or permit programs.
